Loony Homer

Balloon sculpture instructions — Twisted Mind CD-ROM

Loony Homer

The link-O-Loon is a decorator balloon. But the tail and long neck make it a special round balloon that has interesting features for twisters. This figure utilizes the extra features of the link-o-loon balloon. I made it as a private challenge to me to twist a figure from Link-O-Loons only. And it sort of looked like homer, changing the colors made it the sculpture you see now. Now this isn't the best homer look-a-like figure out there, but the fact that it's made entirely out of link-o-loons makes it interesting. There is also a parody of Pikatjuuh made entirely out of link-o-loons on this CD.

Balloons needed: 1 × mini link-o-loon white  |  1 × mini link-o-loon yellow  |  2 × mini link-o-loon blue  |  2 × mini link-o-loon red
  1. 1 Inflate red link-o-loon. Do not inflate the neck. Be very careful with tying to not damage the neck.
    Step 1
  2. 2 Inflate the neck of the red link-o-loon.
    Step 2
  3. 3 We are going to put air in the tail. It's best to stretch that tail first then.
    Step 3
  4. 4 Push on the balloon, forcing the air into the tail.
    Step 4
  5. 5 While still pushing, twist the tail so the air keeps inside the tail.
    Step 5
  6. 6 Push the tail again, forcing the air to the end, and twist a small bubble. After that create a loop twist.
    Step 6
  7. 7 Like this.
    Step 7
  8. 8 From the top bubble, create a pinch twist.
    Step 8
  9. 9 Repeat this for the 2nd red balloon and twist them together at the pinch twists.
    Step 9
  10. 10 Inflate the 2 blue link-o-loons. Do not inflate the neck.
    Step 10
  11. 11 Push the air in the tail and twist off.
    Step 11
  12. 12 Like this.
    Step 12
  13. 13 Repeat for 2nd blue link-o-loon.
    Step 13
  14. 14 And lock tails together.
    Step 14
  15. 15 Tie nozzles of blue link-o-loon's together.
    Step 15
  16. 16 While pushing the air towards the end, twist of a very small, and 2 slightly larger bubbles at the end of tail. Locktwist them forming a hand. Repeat this for the 2nd blue link-o-loon.
    Step 16
  17. 17 Underinflate the yellow link-o-loon. The neck also gets inflated and the knot has to be as close to the nozzle as possible.
    Step 17
  18. 18 Push the air inside the tail.
    Step 18
  19. 19 Lock yellow tail between the the blue tails.
    Step 19
  20. 20 While pushing the air to the yellow tail, twist of 2 bubbles in the yellow link-o-loon.
    Step 20
  21. 21 Pinch twist the middle bubble.
    Step 21
  22. 22 Underinflate the white link-o-loon, and tie both the nozzle and the tail.
    Step 22
  23. 23 Twist this in half. Because you tied the tail this is easier.
    Step 23
  24. 24 Insert eyes under the yellow pinch twist so that they stick out at the back of the head.
    Step 24
  25. 25 Tie nozzle and tail together.
    Step 25
  26. 26 Push white to the front of the head between the nose (pinch twist) and the top of the head.
    Step 26
  27. 27 Make sure the top of the head points upwards.
    Step 27
  28. 28 Insert the red pinch twists between the blue nozzles and lock them.
    Step 28
  29. 29 Push the yellow tail in-between the blue link-o-loons.
    Step 29
  30. 30 Draw on features and there he is.
    Step 30
  31. 31 A 2nd type of head you could make out of link-o-loons. Idea from Dennis Hogers. It's one blue 5" link-o-loon. Tail filled, Bubble twisted of the round and pinch twisted. Wiggle eyes pushed between the nose and the pinch twist.
    Step 31
  32. 32 If you tie a series of link-o-loons together you basically have a string of bubbles. You can twist that string of bubbles like Royal Sorell did for this poodle.
    Step 32
